Why Jet Washing Matters on a Brand-New Development

At first glance, jet washing a brand-new development might sound slightly unnecessary. After all, if everything is new, how dirty can it really be?

The answer is: surprisingly dirty.

Construction work creates a huge amount of dust, mud and fine debris. Vehicles and machinery travel across the site, materials are moved around, and footprints and tyre marks quickly build up across newly laid surfaces. Once the main construction work is complete, those outside areas often need a proper clean before the development looks genuinely finished.

That was the job Dean and Kev recently took on, jet washing a large stretch of parking bays, pathways and surrounding paved areas.

It was not simply a case of giving everything a quick rinse. Cleaning a large outdoor space properly means working methodically, controlling where the dirty water travels and making sure each section is cleaned evenly. Otherwise, it is very easy to move the dirt from one area to another or leave obvious lines across the surface.

The weather added another challenge because the work took place during one of the hottest weeks of the recent heatwave.

Very warm conditions can make jet washing more difficult. Surfaces dry much more quickly, meaning the team has to work carefully in manageable sections to avoid dirt or cleaning residue drying back onto the ground before it can be properly rinsed away. It is also physically demanding work, particularly when you are outside for hours using heavy equipment in direct heat.

So why not rearrange it for a cooler day?

Because commercial cleaning often forms part of a much bigger timetable. Other contractors may be waiting to complete their work, areas might need to be opened for residents or visitors, and delaying one job can have a knock-on effect across the whole project. Provided the work can be completed safely and to the right standard, our team will always do everything they can to keep things moving.

Dean and Kev paced the work, tackled the area section by section and made sure the full space was completed properly. Kev did return looking, in Area Manager Sam’s words, slightly like a lobster, but the finished result was worth the effort.
