Supporting the Aldershot Food Hub: Helping Those Who Help Others
Looking After Those Who Look After Others: Supporting the Aldershot Food Hub
Some of the most important places in our communities aren’t always the biggest or the newest.
They’re the places where people know they’ll be welcomed. Where practical support is available, advice is offered without judgement and kindness is part of everyday life.
The Food Hub in Aldershot is one of those places.
Its purpose is to reduce food poverty, help reduce food waste and provide a welcoming space where people can access support, advice and guidance when they need it. With so much time, energy and resource dedicated to helping others, it’s easy to see why something like restoring a tired floor naturally slips to the bottom of the to-do list.
When one of our clients told us about the incredible work the Food Hub does, we wanted to get involved in the best way we knew how.
The floor wasn’t dirty. It was exhausted. Volunteers, visitors and food deliveries had all played their part in wearing away the paint, leaving behind a floor that had worked incredibly hard for the community it served. It had done exactly what it was meant to do.
Now it needed a little care itself. Our team scrubbed the floor back, carefully prepared the surface and repainted it, giving the space a fresh new lease of life. It wasn’t the biggest project we’ve ever undertaken, but that was never the point.
For us, this wasn’t about restoring a floor. It was about restoring a space that’s used by people doing extraordinary things for others. We believe businesses have a responsibility to support the communities around them whenever they can. We spend every day helping our clients look after their buildings, and this felt like an opportunity to look after the people who spend their days looking after everyone else.
We hope the freshly restored floor gives the team at the Food Hub in Aldershot one less thing to think about. We hope it gives volunteers a brighter, more welcoming place to work from. Most of all, we hope it’s a small reminder that the work they do doesn’t go unnoticed.
A freshly painted floor won’t reduce food poverty. It won’t put food on someone’s table. It won’t offer advice to a family going through a difficult time. The volunteers do will do that. We simply wanted to do something for them. Sometimes, looking after your community starts by looking after the people who dedicate their lives to looking after everyone else.
